Township of Severn is dedicated to the safety of all road users. You can help remind drivers to be aware of pedestrians by displaying “Please Slow Down” lawn signs on the boulevard in front of your property. These signs are a way of making drivers more aware of their speed as they travel in residential areas.

How can I get a sign?

Signs are available to residents free of charge at the Administration Office located at 1024 Hurlwood Lane in Severn.

Over time lawn signs can degrade, dislodge, or otherwise fall into a state of disrepair. Please ensure that your lawn sign is safely maintained and replace the lawn sign if it's damaged or unsafe.

We may move or relocate any lawn signs that are considered unsafe to a more suitable location.

When can I display a sign?

You can display a sign annually between April 1 and November 30. If you don't remove a sign by November 30, we'll remove the sign. This is done in order to help with winter snow maintenance and removal.

Where can I place the sign?

You should place the sign in front of your property. You can display one sign per house, or two if you're located on a corner lot. The signs must be set back a minimum of 0.6 m (2 feet) from the curb or edge of the sidewalk and at least 3 m (10 feet) away from any fire hydrant.

Signs must not obstruct the travelled portion of the roadway, median, sidewalk, bicycle path or multi-use trail, and must not obstruct sight lines for pedestrians, cyclists or drivers.

How do I install it?

Signs must be inserted into the ground using only the wire frame provided. Signs must be installed as is without added illumination or the use of reflective tape. They may not be attached to a building, structure, post, pole, tree or bush.
