Outdoor rinks

The Bass Lake Woodlands Park (1956 Pine Avenue) outdoor rink and the Washago Community Centre outdoor rink are currently closed due to poor ice conditions resulting from warmer temperatures.

Guidelines for use

Please follow these guidelines to ensure the rink remains open for use:

  • children and youth should be under adult supervision
  • hockey can be played at any time when there is no one using the rink for recreational skating
  • it is highly recommended that all ice users wear a CSA-approved helmet and protective gear
  • please show consideration for our neighbours and their property
  • report all hazards, misconduct, and foul-language to Township staff
  • respect the posted schedule
  • slapshots should be avoided, especially those towards the road
  • stay off the rink during inclement or mild weather
  • use of alcohol, drugs, smoking, or vaping is not permitted

Use of the rinks is at your own risk. You voluntarily assume all risk associated with any sport or event. Township of Severn does not accept responsibility for any related risks or injuries.

Contact us to report any concerns or issues.

Volunteer opportunities

We need volunteers for the Bass Lake Woodlands Park and Washago Community Centre outdoor rinks. Volunteers must be able to work outdoors in the cold and be available weeknights and weekend nights. Training is provided. The outdoor rinks are volunteer-dependent, meaning that they can't exist without community members willing to support them.

Volunteer duties would include but are not limited to:

  • shoveling snow from the ice surface
  • watering (flooding) down the rink
  • ensuring the skating surface is in overall good condition
  • reporting ice conditions to Township staff

To help out, send an email to the Manager of Recreation and Facilities or call 705-325-2315 x253.

Rink openings are weather dependent and will be announced.

Hockey and figure skating

Check out a list a community sports clubs and organizations. There are local hockey leagues and figure skating clubs if you're interested in taking lessons or looking for structured play.
