Chief Administration Officer

Reporting to the Mayor and Council, the Chief Administrative Officer is responsible for the strategic leadership and efficient delivery of all the municipal administrative and operational services. As Council’s key advisor, you will embrace our vision, mission and strategic priorities and develop and implement operational plans to ensure municipal services are coordinated and aligned with those priorities. You will recommend policies, plans and programs that benefit our residents by being nnovative, accountable and fiscally responsible. You will support growth and development within the community and will ensure resources are used effectively in accordance with the priorities and principles established by Council. 


Leading a talented team, you will inspire a dedicated workforce and help foster a workplace culture focused on service excellence, innovation and teamwork while positioning the Township of Severn as an employer of choice. 

The Township offers competitive compensation of $191,000 to $224,000, plus pension, benefits, vacation, professional development, along with the opportunity to work with an engaged Council and talented team in a beautiful community.

Job description

As the result of an upcoming leave, the Township of Severn is seeking a Recreation Coordinator to develop programs and special events, recruit instructors and volunteers, and provide oversight of those programs. This role includes managing service delivery, coordinating recreation programs and special events, as well as handling the administrative responsibilities of the department. This will be a contract position for 12 months, with a possible extension.

Rate of pay

The rate of pay for this position is $34.71 to $40.59 per hour for a 35-hour work week. Hours are not standard and will be irregular due to the nature of this position and will be beyond the standard work week.

Duties

As the Recreation Coordinator, your responsibilities will include:

  • acting as the liaison with various community groups
  • assisting in the development and implementation of regular and special events
  • manages the planning, coordination, and delivery of the annual summer camp program
  • assisting the Director of Recreation, Parks and Facilities, or designate(s), in maintaining an effective and efficient departmental workflow, including providing support and liaison services to the Culture and Recreation Advisory Committee
  • attracting, placing, and supporting contracted and volunteer instructors
  • developing and directing the provision of programs for a variety of ages, including:
    • development, planning, scheduling, promotion, and implementation ensuring that the daily operations are completed, such as:
    • preparing and tracking Recreation, Parks, and Facilities user agreements and ensuring compliance
    • preparing promotional information for program and activities
  • accepting course and program registrations

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • minimum three years of experience in recreation, programming, or coordinator role
  • excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with the public, community organizations, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner
  • demonstrated ability to effectively organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
  • strong customer service and public relations skills
  • proven experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation
  • working knowledge of recreation booking, registration, and facility management software
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • strong verbal and written communication skills
  • ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports, correspondence, and promotional materials.
  • valid Class G driver's licence in good standing and access to a reliable vehicle would be considered an asset

Certifications

The following certifications are required for this position:

  • college diploma in a related discipline, such as Sports and Recreation
  • valid Standard First Aid and CPR/AED
  • continuing education to maintain and/or increase skills
  • possession of a valid G driver’s licence
  • Parks and Recreation Ontario HIGH FIVE certificate (preferred or willing to acquire)
