Job description
The Recreation Coordinator will develop programs and special events, recruit instructors and volunteers, and provide oversight of those programs. This role includes managing service delivery, coordinating recreation programs and special events, as well as handling the administrative responsibilities of the department.

Rate of pay
The rate of pay for this position is $33.86 to $39.60 per hour for a 35-hour work week. Hours are not standard and will be irregular due to the nature of this position and will be beyond the standard work week.
Duties
As the Recreation Coordinator, your responsibilities will include:
- acting as the liaison with various community groups
- assisting in the development and implementation of regular and special events
- assisting the Director of Recreation, Parks, and Facilities or designate(s) in maintaining an effective and efficient workflow in the department, including liaising with the Culture and Recreation Advisory Committee
- attracting, placing, and supporting contracted and volunteer instructors
- developing and directing the provision of programs for a variety of ages, including:
- development
- planning
- scheduling
- promotion
- implementation
- ensuring that the daily operations are completed, such as:
- opening the building
- set-up of rooms for activities
- assisting with program delivery
- preparing and tracking Recreation, Parks, and Facilities user agreements and ensuring compliance
- preparing promotional information for program and activities (e.g., program guide and other print materials in accordance with corporate branding guidelines)
- accepting course/program registrations
- procuring program supplies
- completing basic updates to departmental web pages
- providing activity set-up instructions to maintenance staff and/or students
- pursuing sponsorship for events
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- three years of experience in a coordinator role
- ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant and professional manner
- ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position
- ability to read, write, and communicate to perform the duties of the position
- ability to work both independently and as a team member, in a fast-paced environment
- experience attracting and working with volunteers
- excellent customer service skills
- physically able to perform the work as per the Physical Demands Analysis of the job (repetitive bending and lifting over 10 kg is required, long periods of standing and walking)
- proficiency with Microsoft products
- proven program development and implementation skills
- working knowledge of booking programs and software
Required certifications
The following certifications are required for this position:
- college diploma in a related discipline, such as Sports and Recreation
- valid Standard First Aid and CPR/AED
- continuing education to maintain and/or increase skills
- possession of a valid G driver’s licence
- Parks and Recreation Ontario HIGH FIVE certificate (preferred or willing to acquire)
