Summer student opportunities

We're hiring three post-secondary students or graduates to assist with our seasonal summer operations. This is a great opportunity to develop transferable skills, support career goals, and learn more about municipal services. 

Employment term

Summer employment opportunities are temporary, full-time positions starting May 4, 2026, and continuing through to August 28, 2026.

Closing date

Applications will be accepted until February 18, 2026.

Rate of pay

The hourly compensation rate for summer students is $19.13 per hour for a 35-hour work week.

Job description

This role will be required to work with the Fire Department Team performing various assignments.

Responsibilities will include:

  • assisting with:
    • digitalization of records
    • data implementation in the new fire department software
    • creating inventory lists for compartments on the fire apparatus
    • emergency plan updates
  • other duties as assigned that would relate to this position

Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

  • be currently enrolled or recently graduated from a post secondary institution
  • possess strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • have the ability to effectively multitask
  • demonstrate good time management skills, punctuality, and reliability
  • comply with all occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures
  • maintain confidentiality

Job description

This role will be required to work as part of the Public Works Team performing various indoor and outdoor assignments.

Responsibilities will include:

  • assisting with:
    • capital project inspections for roads infrastructure
    • preparation of procurement documents and processes using Bids and Tenders platform
    • project management tasks including preparing material, tracking data and reports, supporting the Capital Projects Manager
    • maintenance activities including stormwater management facility inspection program
    • field surveys for road and drainage infrastructure (ArcGIS Field Collector and GPS)
    • general records management tasks including scanning engineering drawings and ArcGIS work
    • implementation of a new Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including data entry

Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

  • be currently enrolled or recently graduated from a post-secondary education program in the field of Civil Engineering Technology or a related discipline
  • possess strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • have the ability to effectively multitask
  • demonstrate good time management skills, punctuality, and reliability
  • comply with all occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures
  • maintain confidentiality
  • provide their own CSA-approved safety footwear (to be provided upon hire)
  • hold a valid Ontario Class G driver's licence and acceptable driver's abstract (to be provided upon hire)

Job description

  • assisting with traffic data collection and basic analysis
  • supporting roadside maintenance activities including sidewalk inspection program
  • conducting field surveys for road and drainage infrastructure (ArcGIS Field Collector and GPS)
  • performing general ArcGIS work
  • assisting with the implementation of a new Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including data entry
  • general labour work, including patching, grass cutting, etc.


Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

  • be currently enrolled or recently graduated from a post-secondary education program in the field of Civil Engineering Technology or a related discipline
  • possess strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • have the ability to effectively multitask
  • demonstrate good time management skills, punctuality, and reliability
  • comply with all occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures
  • maintain confidentiality
  • provide their own CSA-approved safety footwear (to be provided upon hire)
  • hold a valid Ontario Class G driver's licence and acceptable driver's abstract (to be provided upon hire)
