Council celebrates the contributions of our community as recipients of the Provincial Senior of the Year Award and Severn’s Good Neighbour Award

Council had the honour of recognizing Severn resident Cathy Westcott for receiving the distinguished 2025 Senior of the Year Award from the Province of Ontario. This award is given to recognize an outstanding senior who, after age 65, enriches the social, cultural, or civic life of the community. Nominated by our Council for her dedication to the Washago Garden Club and the Events Committee, Cathy is a true embodiment of civic pride and care for the Severn community.

Severn’s Good Neighbour Award is awarded annually to an individual or group that has displayed strong values and made a positive impact through good neighbourly deeds that contribute to the vitality and social connections of the community. Five residents were nominated by the Severn community for their contributions this year.

Randy Kincaide, Herb Roy, and Brian Emery were nominated for their kindness, thoughtfulness, and neighbourly actions during the ice storm and throughout the year. This included free snow removal, checking on properties and neighbours, and offering their time and care to support their community.

Council was also pleased to recognize George Laing for his efforts to help his neighbours in Port Severn that were unable to tend to their property during the ice storm. George took action to protect their property and assets and did this at his direction and at his own expense.

A Good Neighbour Award was presented to Dawn Clarke, owner of the Coldwater Bowling Alley, for her involvement and leadership with youth sports, charities, and other organizations that make Coldwater and Severn a better place for all.

This is an important opportunity for Council to recognize and celebrate the people who make Severn a wonderful place to call home. Your kindness and invaluable contributions to our community are appreciated, and we are grateful for what you do. On behalf of Council and the Severn community, we thank you for your service.

Mayor Mike Burkett
