County of Simcoe's Battery Collection Week begins November 3
Midhurst/October 21, 2025: County of Simcoe is preparing for Battery Collection Week, starting Monday, November 3, 2025. This initiative plays a vital role in promoting the safe and environmentally responsible disposal of household batteries, and we encourage all residents to take part in protecting our environment.
If you have a designated battery bag, please use it. Due to delivery disruptions at Canada Post, battery bags were not mailed out this year. However, they are available for pickup at all County waste facilities, the Township of Severn Administration Office (1024 Hurlwood Lane), and other select locations throughout the County.
If you don’t have a battery bag or need additional space, you may use a large, clear resealable bag instead. On your scheduled collection day during the week of November 3, place your bag of batteries on top of your waste cart, not inside it. This ensures the batteries are clearly visible and easily accessible for collection crews.
Acceptable items include dry cell, single-use batteries such as standard AA, AAA, C, D and 9-Volt and button batteries. Due to regulatory requirements, only undamaged, single-use and dry cell batteries are accepted for curbside collection.
Batteries that are not accepted include rechargeable battery packs (NiCad, NiMH, or Lithium Ion – typically used in laptop computers, cellular phones, etc.), car batteries, industrial batteries, and battery packs. These should be taken to a Household Hazardous Waste Depot for free, year-round drop off.
Proper disposal of batteries prevents harmful chemicals from entering our environment and helps conserve valuable resources. By participating in Battery Collection Week, you are contributing to a cleaner, safer environment.
