Fire Danger Rating set to HIGH on May 16

The fire danger rating in Severn has been set to HIGH.

Severn and the surrounding area have entered a drying trend (less precipitation than expected for this time of year) and wildfires continue to spread in other nearby regions. Even with the recent rain and forecasted cooler temperatures, conditions can change quickly.

Since early April, Severn Fire and Emergency Services has already responded to ten grass/brush fire incidents, eight of which were caused by human activity. One of these fires required the assistance of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry due to its location.

At the high rating, burning is allowed but please use extra caution and never leave a fire unattended. Severn Fire and Emergency Services recommends no burning.

If you plan to have a residential fire this long weekend, or anytime throughout the year, please purchase a fire permit.

Fire permits contribute to overall fire safety and protect the environment. The permitting process allows the Township of Severn's Fire and Emergency department to educate the public on safe practices and monitor burning activities. Additionally, permits can help prevent uncontrolled fires and allow for quicker response times if needed.
