Winter Control positions

 

Township of Severn is now accepting applications for the following contract positions to support our Winter Control Operations for the upcoming 2025 to 2026 season.

These roles are essential to keeping our community safe and accessible during the winter months.

Night Patroller - Contract (1 position)

Job description

The Night Patroller will monitor road conditions throughout the municipality during overnight hours.

Responsibilities include:

  • patrolling roads to assess conditions such as snow and ice accumulation
  • reporting and dispatching staff as needed, in accordance with Township Winter Control procedures and Municipal Maintenance Standards
  • performing additional duties as assigned

Requirements

Successful candidates will require:

  • valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence
  • clear and current driver’s abstract (required for employment)
  • completion of a mandatory Winter Patroller Course (provided at no cost by the Township)

Details

The hours of work will be 10:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. (rotating 40-hour weekly shift). The rate of pay for this position is $26.74 per hour.

Road Operator | Afternoon shift - Contract (2 positions)

Job description

The Road Operators (2 positions available) will support winter road maintenance.

Responsibilities include:

  • snow plowing and sanding of Township roadways
  • light maintenance tasks such as sign replacement

Requirements

Successful candidates will require:

  • valid Ontario Class DZ driver’s licence in good standing
  • clear and current driver’s abstract (required for employment)
  • previous experience in snow plowing and sanding (preferred)

Details

The hours of work will be 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. The rate of pay for these positions is $30.06 per hour. The positions will work out of the South Yard (4251 Burnside Line) or North Yard (2068 North River Drive) locations. 

Parks and Facility Operator - Contract (2 positions)

Job description

Parks and Facility Operators (2 positions) will help to provide winter maintenance at municipal parking lots and facilities.

Responsibilities will include:

  • snow plowing, sanding, and hand shoveling at various locations
  • standby availability with guaranteed 8-hour shifts when called in

Requirements

Successful candidates will require:

  • valid Ontario Class G driver’s license
  • clear and current driver’s abstract (required for employment)

Details

The rate of pay for these positions is $27.54 per hour. The Standby Rate for these positions is $250 per week. The employee will receive a guaranteed 8 hours paid when called in.
