Significant Weather Event lifted; winter conditions ongoing

Township of Severn has lifted the Significant Weather Event declaration that was in effect as of Sunday, December 28.

Road crews are still out working to manage drifting snow caused by strong winds and working to maintain safe road conditions.

Power has been restored to affected areas by Hydro One. Anyone still without power is asked to report their outage by calling 1-800-434-1235 or texting 92887 (WATTS).

A Yellow Warning remains in effect for Severn and surrounding areas. Snow squalls and blowing snow are expected to continue into this afternoon, with visibility dropping to near zero at times. An additional 25 to 50 cm of snow is possible, with strong northwest winds of 50 to 70 km/h continuing into later today.

Conditions can change quickly and without warning. Roads may become hazardous or impassable at times. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel. If you need to be on the road, check Ontario 511 for current conditions.

To help keep everyone safe, please remember to:

• do not park on municipal roads, especially overnight between midnight and 7:00 a.m.
• do not push or blow snow onto roads — this is unsafe and against the Highway Traffic Act
• keep mailboxes, green civic address signs, fire hydrants, and culverts clear
• keep children away from roadside snowbanks and avoid tunnelling or playing near the road

Waste collection by the County of Simcoe will continue as scheduled. Please clear snow and ice so carts can be placed on level ground, and do not place carts behind or on top of snowbanks. Please remove carts as soon as possible after collection.
