Step Up for Severn: Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Information Sessions happening May 6 and May 23

Do you have the courage to answer the call?

Severn Fire and Emergency Services is inviting community-minded residents to learn what it takes to become a Volunteer Firefighter, also known as a VFF, at two upcoming recruitment information sessions this May.

Being a VFF is about more than responding to emergencies. It means joining a dedicated team, serving your neighbours, building lifelong skills, and making a real difference when people need help most. Volunteer firefighters are trained to respond in challenging and unpredictable situations, often in difficult weather, at all hours, and under pressure. It is demanding work, but for those who are ready to step forward, it can also be one of the most rewarding ways to serve the community.

“Volunteer firefighters are an essential part of public safety in Severn,” said Mayor Mike Burkett. “They bring commitment, courage, and care to every call. These information sessions are a great opportunity for residents to see what the role is really about, ask questions, and decide if this is the right path for them.”
