Thinking about running for Council? Join Severn’s Candidate Information Session on April 23

Individuals interested in serving their community as a member of Council are invited to attend the Township of Severn’s Candidate Information Session on Thursday, April 23, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Township Administration Office, 1024 Hurlwood Lane. Virtual attendance will also be available.

The session is intended for anyone considering a run for municipal office in the 2026 Municipal Election. It will give prospective candidates an opportunity to learn more about the role of Council, the election process, and what it takes to serve the community in local government.

The session will cover:

  • the roles and responsibilities of Mayor and Council
  • the nomination process and candidate eligibility
  • key election timelines and deadlines
  • campaign rules and requirements
  • financial filing and campaign compliance
  • resources available to candidates, including the Candidate Guide
  • opportunities to ask questions about the election process.

Serving on Council is a meaningful way to help shape the future of your community. Council members are responsible for addressing important local issues, considering a range of perspectives, and making decisions in the best interest of residents.

In the 2026 election, Severn voters will elect one Mayor, one Deputy Mayor, five ward Councillors, and a School Board Trustee. The municipal election will take place on October 26, 2026.
