Update on Severn's Automated Speed Enforcement program
In response to the announcement from the Province of Ontario to introduce legislation to ban speed cameras, the Township has issued the following update regarding the Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) program in Severn.
Township of Severn's two active ASE program cameras will remain operational in Community Safety Zones. Severn will announce an end date for the program once provincial legislation has passed.
The two active ASE cameras are located in the following Community Safety Zones:
- Coldwater Road
- Division Road West (Marchmont Public School)
"Municipal Speed Camera in Use" signage remains in place at these two locations. This means that those exceeding posted speed limits may be ticketed.
Penalty Orders that were issued and not delivered (those that remain in the mail system) before the start of the Canada Post strike will receive an extension. Penalty Orders issued since the start of the Canada Post strike will not receive an extension, as these Penalty Orders will be sent by courier to ensure delivery.
All funds generated from the ASE program are used to fund road safety and traffic calming initiatives.
Township of Severn only issues Penalty Orders via mail. If you receive a text or email regarding payment, it is a scam and should be deleted immediately.
If you receive a Penalty Order, you can pay online or dispute your Penalty Order on our Pay or Dispute Your Penalty Order page on our website. Please note, municipal staff cannot make any adjustments to a Penalty Order. Requests for reduced fees, changes, or dismissal of Penalty Orders cannot be completed by our staff.
Background
In 2024, Council approved the ASE program as part of Severn's broader commitment to traffic safety. Following this decision, staff determined the most effective locations for ASE deployment, focusing on school and community safety zones. These zones are identified within the Community Safety Zone By-law (By-law 2025-27).
