To ensure that all septic systems in Severn are properly maintained and functioning, the Township of Severn follows the Discretionary and Mandatory On-Site Sewage System Maintenance Inspection Program outlined in the Ontario Building Code, which supports the Clean Water Act. All systems in Severn are inspected on a five-year cycle.
Residents in the Lake St. George area can expect inspections to occur in the spring, summer, and fall of 2025.

The ice storm resulted in damage and dangerous conditions, rendering many parks and trails in Severn unsafe. After thorough evaluations and significant efforts, all parks have reopened; however, the Carlyon Line to Coldwater section of Uhthoff Trail remains closed for public safety.
The County of Simcoe continues to prioritize our community and others hardest hit by the ice storm for brush and debris pick-up.
The County has asked that residents place all brush and debris safely by the side of the road by Monday, May 19. Crews will return to Severn automatically for one final collection after May 19.
The fire danger rating in Severn has been set to HIGH. At the high rating, burning is allowed but please use extra caution and never leave a fire unattended. Severn Fire and Emergency Services recommends no burning.
Annual watermain flushing will start on May 20 in Coldwater.
Annual watermain flushing is an important preventative maintenance activity that:
Township of Severn is undertaking a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for the expansion of the Coldwater Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and the Main Sewage Pumping Station (SPS). The Class EA will identify and evaluate options for increasing the wastewater pumping and treatment capacity to accommodate anticipated growth in Coldwater.
A second Public Information Centre (PIC) will be held in person on May 29 in Coldwater to present the wastewater treatment and sewage pumping design options and the preliminary recommendations, and to acquire public feedback.
Our Administration Office (1024 Hurlwood Lane, Severn) and facilities will be closed on Monday, May 19 for the Victoria Day holiday. We will reopen on Tuesday, May 20 at 8:30 a.m.
These in-person information sessions will detail the volunteer firefighter recruitment process and the skills needed to succeed. Although attendance is not required to apply, it is strongly encouraged to attend one of the two sessions so that applicants can gain a full understanding and appreciation of the level of commitment required by all firefighting staff.
