City of Orillia: Final locations of Orillia’s Boundary Expansion determined
For immediate release (May 12, 2026): Orillia, ON - Council adopts Option 1 for expansion into Townships of Severn and Oro-Medonte
After several years of technical studies, public engagement, and consultation with neighbouring municipalities, the City of Orillia has confirmed the preferred locations for its next municipal boundary expansion.
Council has endorsed “Option 1 – Recommended Option,” which will guide the City’s efforts to secure approximately 196.1 developable hectares of land from the Townships of Severn and Oro-Medonte to accommodate projected growth over the next 20 to 30 years.
“Council’s decision on our municipal boundary expansion marks an important milestone in planning for our City’s future,” said Mayor Don McIsaac. “This step reflects a proactive and responsible approach to accommodating both housing and employment needs. The selected location is a result of careful consideration and meaningful input from our neighbouring Townships and residents throughout the process.”
“I want to express the City’s gratitude to our neighbouring municipalities for their collaboration during the boundary review,” said City of Orillia CAO, Amanpreet Singh Sidhu. “We also want to thank our planning staff for their diligence in following a respectful and informed process throughout the project.”
Of the total lands identified, approximately 90.3 hectares are intended to support future employment growth, while 105.8 hectares will accommodate residential, commercial, recreational, and institutional uses. The approved expansion areas are illustrated in the attached map.
“Staff have completed the comprehensive planning work required to identify both the scale and location of the City’s next boundary expansion,” said Katy Modaressi, Director of Development and Infrastructure Planning. “Following the 2026 municipal election, the City will begin discussions with the County of Simcoe and the Townships of Severn and Oro-Medonte to negotiate the terms of annexation.”
