Fire Danger Rating changed to HIGH; Fire Ban lifted
Effective Friday, July 17, at 10:00 a.m., the Township of Severn has changed the Fire Danger Rating to HIGH and lifted the total fire ban.
The rating has been changed based on current air quality conditions, the Ministry of Natural Resources’ Fire Weather Index, and forecasted rainfall.
At a HIGH rating, burning is permitted with extra caution; however, Severn Fire and Emergency Services recommends no burning at this time. Never leave a fire unattended.
Before starting a fire, always check:
- the current Fire Danger Rating and any burn restrictions
- local weather and wind conditions
- current air quality
- active weather and air quality alerts
Smoke from outdoor burning can worsen local air quality and increase health risks for residents and visitors.
Anyone who chooses to burn must follow all open-air burning requirements. A valid fire permit is required for residential burning. Keep water or a hose nearby, ensure the fire is supervised by someone 18 years of age or older, and do not burn when wind speeds exceed 20 kilometres per hour.
Conditions can change quickly. Residents and visitors should continue to monitor the Township’s Fire Danger Rating page at severn.ca/fdr for the latest rating, restrictions, and updates.
