Lawn Watering By-law remains in effect across the Township
Residential water use can increase by up to 50 percent during the summer months. This increased water use puts more strain on Severn's water supply and distribution systems.
To help conserve water and reduce costs, our Lawn Watering By-law restricts water usage from May 15 to November 1 for any properties serviced by the municipal water system. Following our Lawn Watering By-law and observing water conservation practices as part of your summer watering can help ensure a sustainable supply of water for everyone.
If you live at an:
-
even-numbered address, you can water your lawn on even-numbered days
-
odd-numbered address, you can water your lawn on odd-numbered days
You can water from the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Penalties
The set fine per offence is $200. Our Municipal Law Enforcement Officers will be actively enforcing this by-law.
Conservation tips
Here are some tips to help you conserve water:
- don't over water your lawn (it only requires 2.5 centimetres of water per week)
- only run your dishwasher and washing machines when fully loaded
- invest in water and energy saving units
- invest in water saving fixtures, such as low-flow toilets and water wise showerheads
- use a broom instead of a hose to clean sidewalks and driveways
- cover your swimming pool to limit evaporation by 90%
We promote water conservation and encourage you to do your part to help reduce water usage and protect our water for generations to come.
