The West Street extension project will provide a safer approach for road users and also allow for improved access for services in the event of an emergency. The project is funded in part by the Canada Community-Building Fund, a permanent source of federal funding for local infrastructure.

The completion of the approximately 200 metre road extension will offer direct road access to properties on Reinbird Street and eliminate the need for the bridge crossing and any related replacement costs of that feature. Currently, any traffic travelling to Reinbird Street can only access the area using the bailey-type bridge.

In addition to the extension of West Street to Reinbird Street, the work will include:

  • drainage improvements
  • new watermain and services
  • new driveway entrances
  • new streetlighting
  • new landscaping
  • rehabilitation of the existing roadway on West Street to Sturgeon Bay Road

The project is underway and is anticipated to be completed in 2024.
